We're often asked about the beautiful Linen fabric we use for our large Crewelwork kits. Woven in Ireland, this sumptuous fabric has exactly the right weight to carry crewel wool, perle or cordonnet threads. Although not the twill weave traditionally used for crewel work, this is an evenweave and gives a lovely contemporary lift to the technique. It is a truly lovely fabric to work with, and gives work a beautifully tactile and luxurious feel.
We have limited stock of this fabric, which is Oyster in colour, approximately 520gsm and washed (which means it will handwash with ease once worked). 140cm (56 inches) wide, we can supply it by the linear metre / half metre, fat quarter or for those with a single small project or as a taster, a 35cm (14inch) square edge-finished.
This is a natural fabric and therefore contains some slubs and imperfections which result from the weaving process of a natural fibre.
Metres / Half metres / Fat Quarters - multiples supplied as a single piece.
